Scalby Beck

Canoeing / Kayaking on Scalby Beck in Scarborough

Scalby Beck provides a challenging watercourse for canoeists and kayakers.

The beck meanders down to the sea via a series of pools of various depths and water speeds. Conditions vary greatly and are heavily influenced by the degree of rainfall and the seasons. Scalby beck can be little more than a trickle in certain places during dry periods of the summer.  However this can change to a raging white water torrent after heavy rainfall,

Negotiating the weirs and fast water can provide a wonderful adrenalin rush as well as a feeling of oneness with nature.

It goes without saying that this type of activity is always better done in groups for health and safety reasons and experienced canoeists should supervise the inexperienced.
